What is Pilates?
The Pilates Method was developed by Joseph Pilates and includes over 500 exercises building core strength and body alignment. Through use of the reformer and the work on the mat, the Pilates Method enables the body to re-learn balanced strength and release nervous system tension, fully engaging and benefiting both the body and the mind. Its focus on abdominal and dorsal muscles develops core body strength both relieving pain and building strength while targeting the buttocks and thighs – think of a dancer's lean form.
Pilates isn't only for dancers. From professional football, baseball, and hockey players to triathletes, avid tennis players, and competitive runners,
athletes at all levels have used the Pilates method to take their performance to the next level. Pilates clients come from a variety of fitness backgrounds. By using the latest, most effective fitness techniques and staying true to the Pilates principles, Pilates Dundee helps clients reach their goals.
If you're looking to start exercising for the first time or simply to improve your fitness level or to try something new, the low-impact nature of the Pilates reformer and mat workouts, coupled with its emphasis on the quality of movement (rather than endless repetitions to the point of fatigue), makes Pilates perfect for any age, body type or fitness level.
Pilates Dundee believes in the principles created by Joseph Pilates: precision, control, concentration, centring, breathing, whole body movement, balanced muscle development, rhythm, and relaxation. Correct form and control over the body and the equipment during the exercises combined with individualized training helps drive the focus of the classes. Pilates Dundee welcomes clients of all levels and of all physical ability.
